The iPhone 5 is Here!
Apple's latest smart phone has now arrived after months of speculation and is receiving great ratings from both users and professional reviewers alike.
Released with a number of changes to the previous iPhone 4S, the iPhone 5 still manages to look very much like a trademark iPhone. Apple have done this on purpose, they have extended the length of the phone to accommodate a larger 4 inch touch screen but kept the same width dimension saying that it fits perfectly in teh hand and can still easily be used one-handed.
The new screen provides a 1136 x 640 pixel, 326ppi resolution and is protected by a fingerprint-resistant coating, Apple state that the display offers 44% more colour saturation and thanks to the panel being thinner has reduced the overall depth of the iPhone 5 to just 7.6mm, 18% thinner than the 4S model.
The screen also now allows for 5 rows of app icons on the homescreen compared to the previous 4 and the phone comes with the latest iOS6 operating software pre-installed which makes further use of the larger display area.
New features that join the OS include a Maps application in partnership with TomTom, simpler iTunes integration and enhanced Siri voice software which now allows for direct posting to Facebook.
The main camera is an 8 mega pixel unit but has been speeded up by 40% over the previous model and the front facing camera for video calling (FaceTime) can now stream in 720p HD for sharper clearer conversations.
Now run by the new A6 processor, Apple claim that the iPhone 5 is twice as fast as the 4S and that graphics performance has also doubled, add to this connection speeds of up to 100mbps thanks to the inclusion of 4G LTE technology and this is by far the fastest iPhone to date.
